The Purpose of the Temple
‘Without inner peace, outer peace is impossible... We can send so-called ‘peacekeeping forces’ into areas of conflict, but peace cannot be imposed from the outside with guns. Only by creating peace within our own mind and helping others do the same can we hope to achieve peace in this world.’- Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, Transform Your Life.
All Kadampa Temples are dedicated to world peace. They are Pure Lands in our troubled world, offering doorways to inner peace to all who visit them.
There are many ways in which the Temple at Kadampa Meditation Centre Australia helps people to develop a deep and lasting experience of inner peace, creating a foundation for peace throughout our world.
Many classes and courses are taught in the Temple each week explaining Buddha’s teachings on how to develop a pure and peaceful mind. These teachings are explained in a way that is practical and relevant to people living in this busy, modern world.
The Temple also regularly hosts chanted Prayers and Meditations which uplift and inspire the mind, and provide a welcome respite from the busy activity of our usually overcrowded mind. Through deep contemplation in meditation we are able to access the reservoir of inner peace that lies at the core of our own mind.
Open to the public most days throughout the year, the Temple is an oasis of spiritual calm where people are welcome to spend time quietly absorbing the beneficial atmosphere of this holy place. Buddha explained that simply looking at the Temple with a happy mind brings inner peace and it places powerful imprints on our minds that lead to deep inner peace in the future.
The great Indian Master Atisha explained that once we are able to tame our own mind in these ways we will have the wisdom and skill to guide other people to the same blissful experience. In this way, through these holy Kadampa Temples, there is real hope that we can accomplish peace in our world.
