Working Visits Programme
Working Visits
Working holidays are an ideal opportunity for an enjoyable and rewarding break where you can get to know and work with our thriving community.
Working visitors do a week's work and receive accommodation, meals and teachings in exchange. The work might be gardening, painting, cleaning or ironing. People with building experience are particularly welcome!
"Its the most rewarding job I've ever had - definitely. Even though its a lot of work and quite challenging at times, I know everything I'm doing has meaning and everything I'm doing is going to be beneficial" - A recent working visitor
What to expect...
The work is varied and could include cooking, gardening, officework, decorating etc. We also have various building projects on the go at any one time that you could get involved in. We are always interested to hear about any specific skills you may be able to offer.
You will start work at 9am (Monday). The day is broken up by mealtimes and tea breaks. In the evenings you are welcome to attend any of the classes and meditations.
On your days off (Saturday and Sunday) you have the chance to explore the beautiful countryside and surrounding area or just relax in the friendly atmosphere of the centre. Any courses on the weekend of your visit you are welcome to attend, free of charge.
You are requested to arrive before 8pm on Sunday, supper is served at 6.30pm if you'd like to have an evening meal. Stays are usually for one week depending on the work available.
Food and accommodation
All meals are vegetarian including eggs and dairy products.
We offer comfortable dormitory accommodation - all you need to do is bring a sleeping bag, and if possible, work clothes and boots.
Please note: Since KMC Australia is a Buddhist Centre, visitors are asked not to drink alcohol or smoke on the premises. We also ask the visitors not to play music.
